Maryland Man Wins $50,000 Lotto Prize With Lucky Numbers He’s Played For Almost A Decade
They say that doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is the definition of insanity.
Yet, every once in a while, playing the long game with the same strategy pays off.
That’s exactly what happened for one Maryland man who played the same numbers in the Bonus Match 5 drawing for “almost a decade.”
On May 28, a Prince George’s County man won the $50,000 Bonus Match 5 top prize with his lucky number combination of 5, 6, 8, 23 and 30.
The man told the Maryland Lottery, “I play the same numbers all the time, I’ve been doing so for years,” according to a Maryland Lottery statement.
For the drawing, the winner bought a $4 ticket with six lines of numbers at a liquor store in Prince George’s County. According to the Maryland Lottery, he selected four lines on the ticket himself, including lines with his special numbers, while the other two lines on the ticket were randomly quick-picked.
The next day, when he checked his ticket, he noticed he matched all five winning numbers, winning the top $50,000 prize. One of the other lines of numbers he chose himself matched three of the winning numbers, winning him another $15.
Total prize? $50,015.
According to the Maryland Lottery, the man, a retired printing press operator, called shared the news with his wife of 22 years. He told the Lottery he will use the winnings to pay bills and put money into savings.
Meanwhile, the liquor store that sold the ticket will get a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
