For those unfamiliar, Groot is a sentient, tree-like creature who is a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, a team of superheroes in the Marvel Comics universe. In the 2014 film, Groot’s dialogue consists of only one phrase: “I am Groot.” That means Vin Diesel had one line. One line that he had to say over 1000 times in order to ensure that the character’s emotions and meaning are conveyed through variations in tone and delivery.
Diesel was chosen to voice Groot because of his deep, distinctive voice and his ability to convey emotion through his vocal performance. He recorded his lines for the film in several different languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, and Mandarin, in order to reach a wider audience.

To date, it is rumored that Diesel has made $54m to be the voice of Groot. Holy moly! In fact, if you search “How much was Vin Diesel paid for Groot” answers range from $54m to $67m. If that sounds crazy, it’s because it might be.
All that said, James Gunn recently replied to this viral tweet thread claiming that Vin Diesel was not paid $54m for being the voice of Groot. Sadly, Gunn did not give any detail on what Diesel was actually paid.
