If you think vintage train sets have lost their luster, think again. For collectors and hobbyists, some of these rare and well-kept sets have chugged their way into the spotlight to become timeless and nostalgic pieces of history — not to mention lucrative investments or a worthwhile side hustle).

From unique prototypes to limited production models worth their weight in gold, here are 10 miniature train sets that fetched impressive prices at auctions and private sales.

1. Lionel Standard Gauge Set
