Sometimes we’re walking down the street and come across an unexpectedly funny sign. It’s such a wonder. Maybe it relates to something in our own lives, a trending internet joke, or even a popular song. And of course, our first instinct is to snap a photo and share it with friends or post it on social media. Here are 19 hilarious street signs that people just had to capture.

1. Valid concern to be honest

2. The guy from the social media signs

The viral guy on the internet who’s always posting witty signs became really famous for his cleverness and for delivering the perfect phrases at the perfect moments. Everything he does out on the streets ends up being hilarious.

3. The search for animals

A missing cat poster on a wooden pole shows a photo of a gray and white cat named Lucky, and a sketch of ALF, the TV character, labeled “Last Seen With,” adding a humorous touch to the notice.

Lost pet signs are always funny, whether it’s because of how they’re written, the rewards they offer, or the photos they use. And sometimes, the descriptions are so strange that you’d think they were looking for ALF instead of an actual pet.

4. Random street signs

A humorous yellow street sign shows a cyclist falling off their bike toward the open mouth of an alligator, with city buildings and traffic in the background.

This sign seems to warn about the worst possible scenario for a cyclist: losing balance and falling straight into the mouth of a crocodile. It’s completely absurd, but impossible not to stop and stare at it.

5. The UFOs have arrived

A blue pedestrian crossing sign has been altered with a sticker of a UFO beaming up the walking figure, creating a humorous scene as if the person is being abducted by aliens. Buildings are visible in the background.

This crosswalk sign was taken to a whole new level: now it looks like a UFO is abducting the pedestrian right in the middle of the street. It’s like something straight out of a sci-fi movie. Impossible not to take a photo.

6. Funny signs with double meanings

A confusing road sign with tangled arrows in multiple directions above a “GOOD LUCK” sign and a speed limit sign reading “45 M.P.H.”, with buildings and trees in the background.

This sign basically wishes you good luck… and for good reason. With so many arrows pointing in every direction, figuring out where to go feels like an impossible mission.

7. Fear with humor

A man stands on the side of a highway holding a sign that says "Will not kill you" near road signs reading "State Prison Next Exit" and "Do Not Pick Up Hitchhikers." Desert landscape in the background.

A sign that says the prison is just ahead, plus someone pretending to head straight for it and to top it off, adding “I won’t kill you.” Definitely a classic worthy of a photo.

8. Located at the crossroads of Man and Steel

Street signs at an intersection show "Kent Ave 7000 N" and "Clark Rd 1500 W" in Sutter County, with trees and a wooden post in the background.

When two streets are named Clark and Kent, it’s impossible not to think of Superman. A perfect coincidence that feels straight out of a comic book. Definitely one of those intersections you just have to photograph.

9. Caution: Extra-Strong Children Ahead

A yellow road sign reads "SLOW CHILDREN" with an image of a running child. Below it, an added sign says "ON STEROIDS." Green trees are visible in the background.

Children sign took an unexpected turn when someone added “on steroids.” And honestly, judging by the super-muscular kid in the drawing, you can’t help but laugh. One of those signs that makes you stop and take a photo.

10. Letter swap

Sometimes letters get swapped, creating new words that actually make sense, and other times they don’t but they’re still funny because we don’t expect to see a typical sign written incorrectly.

11. Don’t mess with the ducks, they mean serious business

12. Well, that seems like a waste of time at this point

A large sign reads "READ THAT SIGN" in red letters, with a green arrow below pointing right and the words "ACROSS THE STREET." Trees and a bright sky are in the background.

13. The signs that sneak into our everyday lives

A digital road sign above traffic cones on a busy street displays, "YOU'LL NEVER GET TO WORK ON TIME HAHA!!" Cars are lined up in traffic, suggesting a delay due to construction.

These signs make you laugh because you relate them to your everyday life. It’s probably a sign someone passes on their way to work, and at the very least, it brings a smile in the middle of all the traffic.

14. Always smile

A blue octagonal street sign reads "STOP AND SMILE" instead of the usual "STOP," standing by a road lined with grass, palm trees, and a house in the background.

A typical traffic sign, but also the perfect spot to take a photo and smile and have a good time

15. The devil is present

A green street sign reads "SATAN ST" above a speed limit sign displaying "SPEED LIMIT 666," with bare tree branches and buildings in the background.

It’s always fun to see street names like this, especially when they’re paired with something related to the same theme. They’re perfect examples to make you laugh and snap a photo.

Meet the Writer

Matt has spent over the last 8 years as both a writer and editor, working in Seattle and Brooklyn, where he is now based. He loves escaping the tirelessly fast pace of the “Mad Apple” that is NYC by taking walks and runs through parks where he’s able to catch up on the latest tea about society from the city’s ever chatty, always hungry, occasionally maniacal, pigeons. They always have a lot to say. When he’s not taking his urban nature strolls, or dutifully combing the deepest rabbit holes of the internet to find the content that’s worth sinking your mind’s teeth into, he’s likely holed up at a dark-lit dive bar with a new book and/or some friends, or just easily he could be on the hunt for the next addition to his steadily growing plant family.
