These vintage photos of the 1990s aim to revisit the golden days of various cars from the 1990s. And just because the cars from the 1990s have lost their popularity doesn’t mean that there aren’t still hungry eyes out there that are more than ready to empty their wallets for a chance at clutching nostalgia in their hands, at the steering wheel.

That wild, hot-rod-inspired roadster that looked like a concept car come to life, but in an “Oh, no …” kind of way.

2. Eagle Talon

This sporty twin to the Mitsubishi Eclipse quietly disappeared with the brand.

3. Saturn SC

Plastic panels, pop-up headlights, and the “different kind of car company” energy that was underwhelming at best.

4. Geo Storm

A red 1990s sports car with pop-up headlights, white wheels, and a slightly faded hood is parked on a cracked asphalt road near some dry grass and trees.

A compact sports coupe that tried hard to look fast but wasn’t exactly a barn burner.

This wannabe Mustang replacement became a front-wheel-drive oddity instead, and its name sounded like a science experiment.

6. Pontiac Sunfire

A tan Pontiac sedan parked on asphalt with a New Jersey license plate.

The smaller, shoutier sibling of the Cavalier tried to present as sleek and cool on the outside (it even had graphics options), but was incredibly bare bones once you got in.

7. Dodge Stealth

The American-badged twin of the Mitsubishi 3000GT was just as wild.

VW’s sporty hatchback that just didn’t make as much of a mark as some of the automakers’ other iconic models.

This cute little coupe was sportier in spirit than in horsepower, making it pretty easy to forget.

10. Mazda MX-3

The baby sibling to the MX-6 that came with a tiny V6 engine — just because it could.

11. Acura Vigor

A dark blue, older-model Acura sedan is parked in a residential driveway, with some visible scratches on the front bumper and a small dent near the right headlight.

The weird middle child between the Legend and the Integra that no one talks about.

12. Chevrolet Lumina Coupe

A white, four-door sedan car parked on a gravel surface with trees and a chain-link fence in the background. The car appears to be from the 1990s.

Somehow less memorable than the Lumina minivan — and that’s saying something.

Meet the Writer

Matt has spent over the last 8 years as both a writer and editor, working in Seattle and Brooklyn, where he is now based. He loves escaping the tirelessly fast pace of the “Mad Apple” that is NYC by taking walks and runs through parks where he’s able to catch up on the latest tea about society from the city’s ever chatty, always hungry, occasionally maniacal, pigeons. They always have a lot to say. When he’s not taking his urban nature strolls, or dutifully combing the deepest rabbit holes of the internet to find the content that’s worth sinking your mind’s teeth into, he’s likely holed up at a dark-lit dive bar with a new book and/or some friends, or just easily he could be on the hunt for the next addition to his steadily growing plant family.
