The 1970s as seen in these vintage photos, was a time period for Texas that was defined by unwavering grit and impressive growth. Oil money in particular accounted for numerous sprouting skyscrapers and freshly laid highways in Houston and Dallas. Then, there were the honky-tonks and also the roadside diners that kep the state’s blue collar spirit thriving.

Texas, as it stood in the 1970s, was an era of many cowboy hats and pickup trucks. Of course, football was at the center stage most every Friday night as well. If you’re feeling nostalgic, then you’ll love these 17 vintage photos that provide glimpses of what ’70s life was like in the Lone Star State.
