Three children reach up to eat glazed donuts hanging from strings.

Halloween parties used to be full of simple games that did not require fancy technology. Families, schools, and neighbors turned everyday items into spooky challenges that became unforgettable traditions. Unfortunately, many of these classic games have disappeared.

If you are planning a Halloween party this year, these vintage games can bring back that old-fashioned charm. They are easy to set up, work for both kids and adults, and add a nostalgic touch.

Apple bobbing has been a Halloween favorite for generations. Players try to grab floating apples from a bucket of water using only their mouths. Using individual bowls instead of one shared bucket makes it easy to bring back.

This sweet challenge is as entertaining to watch as it is to play. Players hang donuts from strings and race to finish theirs without using their hands.

3. Pin the Wart on the Witch

A spooky twist on “Pin the Tail on the Donkey,” this game was a classroom favorite. Blindfolded players try to stick a paper wart in a witch’s face while everyone cheers them. It is easy to make with cardboard.

Before inflatable games became popular, real pumpkins did the job. Players tossed rings over pumpkin stems to score points. It works well today with pumpkins of different sizes.

5. Mummy Wrap Relay

Teams raced to wrap one teammate like a mummy using rolls of toilet paper. The fastest team with the funniest-looking mummy won. It became popular decades ago because it mixed creativity with friendly competition.

6. Fortune-Telling Pumpkin

Older Halloween celebrations included harmless fortune-telling traditions. Guests reached into a decorated pumpkin to pull out folded fortunes, jokes, or predictions for the coming year.

Homemade monster boards with cutout mouths made this carnival-style game a hit. Players tossed bean bags into different openings worth different points.

8. Ghost Story Circle

Gathering in a circle with dim lights to tell spooky stories was one of the simplest traditions. Each person added a twist to the tale, making every story magical.

9. Witch Hat Ring Balance

Players balanced plastic rings on the pointed tip of a witch’s hat while wearing it. Walking across the room without dropping the rings made the challenge difficult. It is a game that brings plenty of laughter.

A jar filled with candy has been a party classic for decades. Guests guessed how many pieces were inside, and the closest guess won the whole jar.

11. Haunted Treasure Hunt

Long before escape rooms existed, Halloween treasure hunts kept kids exploring every corner of the house. Clues led players from one hiding spot to another until they found the final prize.

12. Pass the Mini Pumpkin

Like a Halloween version of Hot Potato, players passed a small pumpkin while music played. When the music stopped, the person holding the pumpkin was eliminated or completed a funny Halloween challenge.
