1945 was filled with moments that changed history as we know it. As World War II finally came to an end, millions of soldiers and civilians around the world experienced relief, uncertainty, celebration, and loss all at once. It was a year of transition, with nations rebuilding, soldiers returning home, and ordinary people adjusting to a world that looked very different from the one they had known just a few years earlier.
