When Pokémon cards arrived in the U.S. in the late 1990s, they were shuffled, traded, bent, and carried around in backpacks. Few children treated them like future investments. First Edition holographic cards in exceptional condition can now command extraordinary prices.
2. Super Nintendo Game Boxes
Many players kept the cartridge and immediately threw away the cardboard packaging. Today, collectors pay premiums for complete-in-box SNES games, making that seemingly useless cardboard surprisingly important.
3. Tamagotchis
These digital pets were everywhere in the late 1990s, but many eventually ended up forgotten in drawers or thrown away when their batteries died. Rare editions in original packaging can be valuable collectibles.
