It’s not everyday that you get to look directly at a professional athlete’s pay stub. That’s probably a good thing since a single paycheck is more than most of us make in an entire year. That’s sobering. In one game, they make more than you make in 52 weeks.

Recently, Arik Armstead took to social media and showed us a breakdown of his frothy paycheck for “educational purposes,” not to “flex.” And we believe him. His whole approach was less about “look how much money I make” and more about actually informing his audience about the ins and outs of how his salary is sliced and diced. And boy is it sliced…directly in half. Ouch!

Before we get into a breakdown, it is worth noting that Armstead makes a lot of money. On March 16, 2020, Armstead signed a five year, $85 million contract with the 49ers. Armstead received $45.85 million in guarantees, $34.15 million of which is guaranteed at signing. So his paycheck is several times more than the median household income in the United States, which is $74,580.

In the first of four short videos posted to twitter, Armstead goes over his salary and his take home pay after Uncle Sam takes his generous cut.

NFL player. Nice work if you can get it. Hopefully he is saving some of that money and not just living paycheck to paycheck like the rest of us.
