Being a kid in the 1960s meant a kind of freedom that’s hard to explain to anyone who didn’t live it. You left the house after breakfast and didn’t come back until the streetlights turned on, and nobody worried because the whole neighborhood was raising you together. Bikes had no helmets, backyards had no fences, and the biggest decision of the day was whether to play kickball or catch crawdads down by the creek.
